30th IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry
PHOTOIUPAC 2026!

The 30th IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry will bring together researchers from all over the world, whose scientific interest revolves around the interactions of light and matter in a broad sense. Started sixty years ago and running every other year, with a brief break during the COVID pandemic, this 30th symposium will address contemporary issues and highlight cutting edge methodologies as well as new theoretical and experimental developments. The conference topics will cover novel synthetic methods based on photocatalysis and relevant to sustainable energy, the study of photochemical reaction mechanisms and of the reactive intermediates involved, and the theoretical principles behind experimental observations. It will include new emerging trends in spectroscopy and microscopy with the associated experimental methods, spanning from ultrafast to single molecule techniques. In addition to addressing fundamental questions, the conference will be of interest to researchers seeking applications of photophysics and photochemistry in light energy conversion, in the development and use of new sensors for materials and biomedical sciences and in the discovery of new nanomaterials with unique properties. The Symposium will also shed light on new developments of relevance to biomedical sciences, not only in the field of sensing and imaging methods, but also through discoveries in photobiology and photomedicine.
The past decade has seen tremendous progress in photochemical sciences, driven by technological developments in the form of new lasers and detectors. High demands on researchers to solve societal needs, including energy related problems, sustainable (green) synthetic methods, and new modalities for more sensitive, accurate and rapid medicinal diagnostics, provide opportunities for photochemists to engage in providing solutions, which puts forward the photochemical sciences at the forefront of research in natural and life sciences, as well as in different technologies. The Symposium will be an excellent opportunity to engage scientists from pharmaceutical, materials, and other industries with colleagues in academia. We look forward to welcoming you all in Zagreb in summer of 2026!
